Welcome to my homepage!
I am currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. My research interests lie in statistical machine learning and nonparametric statistics, focusing on the foundations of deep learning, including generalization, approximation, and optimization. I have recently also been interested in the theory and application of deep reinforcement learning.

2025-11-24: Our paper titled “Learning Guarantee of Reward Modeling Using Deep Neural Networks”, co-authored with Yuanhang Luo, Yeheng Ge, and Ruijian Han, has been accepted by SIGKDD 2026 Research Track.
2025-07-28: Our paper titled Wasserstein generative regression, co-authored with Shanshan Song, Tong Wang, Jian Huang and Yuanyuan Lin, has been accepted by Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series B.
2025-06-07: Our paper titled Deep Neural Newsvendor, co-authored with Jinhui Han and Ming Hu, has been accepted by Management Science.
2025-04-08: Our paper titled Deep Mutual Density Ratio Estimation with Bregman Divergence and its Applications, co-authored with Dongxiao Han, Siming Zheng, Xinyuan Song, Liuquan Sun and Jian Huang, has been accepted by Journal of American Statistical Association.
2025-04-01: I am delighted to receive the Best Teacher Award (2024/25) from the Department of Applied Mathematics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, in recognition of my dedication and excellence in teaching.
2024-12-19: I am honored to have received the funding for the Young Scientists Project of the 2024 MOST National Key R&D Program in the field of “Mathematics and Applied Research” as a Co-Investigator (CO-I). The title of our project is “Deep Learning-Driven Big Data Association Analysis: Methods, Theories and Applications”.
2024-12-16: Our paper titled Conformal Set-based Human-AI Complementarity with Multiple Experts, co-authored with my research assistant, Mr. Helbert Paat, has been accepted as a full paper (ID 1265) in the Main Technical Track at AAMAS 2025.
2024-06-29: I received the Junior Researcher Award Honorable Mention of the 2024 ICSA China Conference for the paper titled Differentiable Neural Networks with RePU Activation: with Applications to Score Estimation and Isotonic Regression.
2024-05-02: My single-authored paper Exploring the Complexity of Deep Neural Networks through Functional Equivalence has been accepted in the 41st International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML 2024).
2024-03-19: I received the 2024 John Aitchison Prize in Statistics from the Hong Kong Statistical Society (HKSS) in recognition of the excellence of my PhD research in Statistics and deep learning. This achievement is highlighted in the news published by the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) and the Hong Kong Statistical Society (HKSS).
